Summary

According to a study conducted  by the Institute of business Ethics, there is a clear link between financial performance and the code of conduct applied by companies. The study, which had place in the United Kingdom, compared 86 companies on both financial performance and whether or not they applied a code of conduct. The companies were divided into two groups, one containing the companies that did use a certain code of conduct ( for at least five years)  and another containing companies who say they don’t.  The study revealed that there is indeed a connection between ethical behaviour and financial performance.

I do believe this article is a valuable base for us to start with, as our topic clearly indicates the link between financial performance and ethical behaviour. It is certain that this link exists,  according to this article. DUe to the existence of this link,we can decide on what we will be investigating. Will we be looking for reasons why codes of conduct pay off? Will we be just talking about the indicators that were used to reveal this link? Will we be talking about the role marketing plays in getting the image of companies across? I would go for either the reason why codes of conduct pay off, or  how marketing comes into play when talking about codes of conduct and performance.
